Driver location notice
Last updated October 14, 2026
Drop uses your location only while you're running a route, from Start route to End route, and never off-shift. Your employer's office sees where you are during the route; customers may see an approximate position when you're close.
Your employer uses Drop, an app made by Illuminant Inc, to plan delivery routes and send them to your iPhone. This notice explains how Drop uses your location. Your employer may print it and give it to you.
When your location is used
- Only during a route. Drop uses your location from the moment you tap Start route until you tap End route. While it does, iOS shows its location indicator.
- Never off-shift. Before you start a route and after you end it, Drop doesn’t use your location at all.
- You’re in control. You can end the route at any time.
The app asks for permission to use your location. “While Using” is enough to run a route. “Always” lets Drop notice that you’ve arrived at a stop while the phone is in your pocket with the screen off. Even with “Always”, Drop uses your location only during a route.
What’s recorded
- When you start and end the route.
- When you arrive at and leave each stop.
- Your latest position while the route runs. Each new position replaces the last one.
- A simplified line of the day’s route, for the office’s map and the miles report.
- The position and time of each proof photo you take.
Drop doesn’t keep a minute-by-minute history of where you’ve been.
Who sees it
- Your employer’s owner and dispatchers see your position on their live map during the route, your arrival and departure times, and the day’s route line.
- Customers may see an approximate position for you on their tracking page once you’re 10 stops away or closer, if your employer turned that on. They don’t see your name.
- Illuminant doesn’t look at it, except when your employer asks for support or to investigate a problem. Those views are read-only, limited and logged.
Drop never sells your location and never uses it for advertising.
How long it’s kept
- Your latest position is replaced as you drive.
- Arrival and departure times are kept as part of each delivery’s record.
- The day’s route line and proof photos are kept for your employer’s history period: 30 days on the Free plan, 2 years on Drop 3 and Drop 10, and with no time limit on Drop 25.
Battery
Drop is designed to use under 5% of your battery an hour during a route.
Apple Watch
If you use Drop on an Apple Watch, it shows your next stop. It doesn’t track your location separately from your iPhone.
